The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is one of the first Egyptian public institutions to benefit from the Twinning instrument, the project entitled “Water Quality Management EG07/AA/EN09” is designed to align water quality practices with those of the European Union in line with the National Water Resources Management Plan.
Throughout the Twinning Project and in cooperation with Italy, France and Austria, the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation focused its objectives on updating its policies on pollution prevention and integrated water resources management, enhancing legislations on water pollution and defining actions to reduce pollution control in Lake Nasser.
The project has successfully ended its 27 month implementation period on 6 March 2011 and is currently phasing out to officially close on 6 May 2011.
Alongside, a set of water quality measuring instruments were purchased for the Central Laboratory for Environmental Quality Monitoring (CLEQM) to complement the Twinning action in the area of assessment of water quality. The supply tender dossier has been posted on the Support to the Association Agreement Programme website, the European Union website and the Official Journal on 15 March 2011. The Deadline for submission the offers is set on 23 May 2011, and the evaluation and selection meeting of the best tenderer will be held on 24 May 2011.
